About us

Footymums is simply a group of parents who love football and are keen to encourage mums to take a greater involvement in the game. We believe that having more mums involved will enhance the provision of grassroots football allowing mums and kids to enjoy the game even more. It’s as simple as that.

Team Manager: Bron Moss

I officially became a Footy Mum on Saturday, 21st September 2002, at Belvedere Park in Burton-on-Trent. Jack was playing in his first under 9s game for Barton Rovers – and I loved it! They happened to win 6-1, but what struck me most was that all the kids on both teams had such a great time and I was hooked.

Since then, I have spent many hours on the touchline in the sun, rain, wind, snow and hail, collected subs, found sponsors, joined the Burton Junior Football League Committee. I have seen many victories and many losses. I have witnessed the joys of Jack scoring goals, and the trauma of his missed penalties.

I have even tried playing but in truth I’m passed it! Shame really, because I really enjoyed sport at school all those years ago.

Most importantly, I have spent hundreds of hours watching Jack and his mates play football - and made some fantastic friends.

I work full time but football is a big part of my evenings and weekends. I have a husband who is a lifelong Stockport County fan (for which he gets a certain amount of flak and indeed sympathy). Rather bizarrely, football is a really important part of our marriage. Luckily, for him – so I tell him, I hate shopping and love football…

Apart from junior football, I love Jeff Stelling, I love watching England. I love Fighting Talk on Five Live. I love the BBC website and the back pages of The Times. I love Soccer AM and I love Thierry Henry. I love Mark Hughes, and Gary Lineker, oh and many more. I collected player coins from Shell during the 1970 World Cup but truly first got the football bug during Italia ’90, and I will choose Match of the Day over any other Saturday night viewing.

I believe mums have a massive part to play in junior football. Not least in spreading the word on initiatives like the FA Respect programme.

footymums.com is simply here to help more mums enjoy football and help more mums help their children enjoy football. For it to work, we need as much feedback and input from other mums as possible, though, so please start talking to us now!
