How The Manager Runs The Team

Do talk to the manager about how he runs the team and the standard they play at. There can be wide discrepancies in kids' football abilities and you'll want to ensure that your child is playing at the level where he/she will most enjoy it.

As for managers, some just want to win and have all the best players. This isn't necessarily wrong if all the players and the parents are happy to sign up to this approach. However, it can occur that the abilities are mixed and the best players get most games in pursuit of a win and that all-important (to them) end of season trophy.

Similarly, there are managers who just want to have a team that plays football regardless of the standard and the result. This generally means that all players in the squad will get equal amounts of time on the pitch. Again this is fine if it suits your son or daughter; however if your child has significant football ability then they might get frustrated with this approach.

The manager should be happy to meet you and answer all your questions. It is important that the team ethic is a good fit for your child.
