Futsal
Futsal is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Generally played indoors it is a 5-a-side game, played with hockey sized goals and with a smaller ball that has a 30% reduced bounce compared to a normal football. Its popularity is primarily due to the fact that it encourages skills and creative play with less emphasis on the physical side of the game.
It is an emerging version of the game, but you should be able to find a futsal venue for your child if they fancy having a go.
Futsal was developed from Futebal de Salao. It is this form of the game that has always been extremely popular in South America. Futebal de Salao is widely recognised as the reason that Brazil's footballers have always been some of the most skilful in the world; part of the reason for this is that the game is played with an even smaller ball (size 2) than Futsal.
Futebal de Salao is played in the UK. One of the main providers is the 'Brazilian Soccer Schools' that can be found in many locations.
